Seeds of Kindness: A Gardening Program for Children and Adults

Post Categories:

On Saturday, May 14, 2011 Rose Lord will be conducting the second of a two-part special gardening class at the Changing Seasons Center for Conscious Living, 300 Cedar Hill Drive, in McMurray PA, starting at 2:00pm. Rose Lord has been teaching gardening to adults and children for six years, and here she has developed a program for teaching children about cooperation and compassion for each other, while giving them a respect for the Earth through gardening.   The idea is in response to a nationwide epidemic of bullying, and the fact that much of what children learn these days consists of artificial impressions derived from computer games, TV programs and advertisements.  On the farm, in days gone by, children learned that success (a good crop, healthy animals, a lush garden)  comes from hard work and devotion, and they learned respect - respect for their parents, for the earth and all the elements of nature.  The garden is itself a living example of cooperation between the sun, the rain, the soil, the worms, and the plants. A gardening project can stimulate an understanding of the need for cooperation and provide a beautiful illustration of what can be accomplished when everyone works together.
The program will be limited to 16 children to be accompanied by a parent or other adult companion.  A fee of $30 will include both sessions, all materials and the children's book, Sean the Veggie Man and the Seeds of Kindness.  To reserve a place in the program please call 412-655-3063.
